Packers & Verizon Wireless to Recycle Cell Phones

October 15th, 2008 · No Comments

The Green Bay Packers and Verizon Wireless will host a cell phone collection at Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts to collect phones for the Verizon Wireless Hopeline® program. Through this program, cell phones and equipment are donated to benefit victims of domestic violence.

Volunteers will collect phones, batteries and accessories that are no longer in use at the stadium gates from 1 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Phones can be from any wireless provider, and are either refurbished for reuse or recycled in an environmentally sound way.

The Hopeline® program has collected more than 5.3 million cell phones and awarded more than $5.6 million in cash grants to domestic violence organizations since 2001. By the end of this year, the program will have donated more than 80,000 phones with 240 million minutes of airtime to victims and survivors of domestic violence, as well as domestic violence organizations.

Verizon Wireless accepts cell phone donations at any of its Verizon Wireless Communication Stores. To find a cell phone recycling location near you, check out Earth911.
