Ever since I read the article about the proposal to place a wind energy farm off Nantucket Sound, I thought this may be the most brilliant idea to combat our energy consumption problems. According to the company that is responsible for the project,
“Cape Wind will be rated to produce up to 468 megawatts of wind power as each wind turbine will produce up to 3.6 megawatts. Maximum expected production will be 454 megawatts. Average expected production will be 170 megawatts which is almost 75% of the 230 megawatt average electricity demand for Cape Cod and the Islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.”
This project will basically entirely power both Cape Cod and Nantucket with clean/no CO2 emitting power and is being entirely funded by the company Cape Wind. Brilliant right? Put a bunch of wind turbines in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean where apparently there is a bunch of wind and use that natural power to create clean electricity. Well, not so fast, it seems that the Nantucket residents are up in arms about the possible project due to the potential “property value implications” that the wind energy farm might have. What a croc. The people that live on this island are enormously wealth already and I’m sure the only thing that could affect their property values are their massively leverage banks lending to high risk applicants.
These are the same people who get the mile-wide tax loopholes. Anyway, good for you for making money and being smart enough to get a house on such a beautiful and venerable place to live. Just quit making idiotic choices about our Earth that fuck with the rest of us.
