My office currently uses overhead fluorescent lighting. We are installing automatic light switches to turn the lights off when someone leaves the room.

Due to increaased power requirements at startup of a light bulb, at what time duration is it actually in-efficient to turn fuorescent lights off? Both for energy requirements and life span of the bulb.

Also, can anyone tell me the theoretical tonnage of pollution generated from incandescent bulbs vs flourescent? I would hope that this comparison takes into account the mercury levels in fluorescent bulbs. Personally, I prefer CO2 to mercury.....

Please advise.

Sincerely,
Nick

That is great Raven. Let me know if I can help in any way. CFL lightbulbs are a great start to reducing our personal energy consumption which should help reduce CO2 in our atmosphere. Good luck with your project.
