I would ignore the sad comments of "Nicolas" and "Santi". Obviously they are paid hacks aiming to discredit the truth about climate change and our efforts to repair our damage. I honestly don't understand how these sorts can live with themselves spreading such crap. Go ahead, keep spending all you money lighting up incandescents.
What's next, smoking does not cause cancer?

I agree with Nicolas. I think governments ought to support research to find more and more effective and renewable resources for energy. Besides, the public are not being properly informed of the health threat fluorescent lightbulbs pose, and safe methods of disposal are not available for when they burn out, which eventually will happen. This leads straight to pollution, mercury getting into the water system and so on. Incandescent lightbulbs are not only more appealing aestethicly but have been in use safely for decades and never done harm to anybody. I just don't understand why some people are taking it on them, especially in favour of something much worse in every way. Support research for new resources. Support incandescent. Let's not go blind.

Thanks for the constructive feedback. I definitely agree that CFLs are not the panacea to a solution to global warming but at least it is a tangible way for the "small scale consumer" to recognize that there is a problem and to allow them to do something about it...I guess you think that recycling is also a waste of time...After all, an individual household only consumes a fraction of disposable goods.

Is there anything you would suggest we do or are we doomed?

compact flourescent light bulb suck! this neo-liberal guilt trip is not effective. large industries and not the small scale consumer can make a difference globally with pollution reduction. Plus compact florescent light bulbs contain murcury and when used in lamps that are turned on and off frequently only last a fraction of the supposed life span and show a dramatically reduced light output after a half a year of use. I will continue to use incandescent light bulbs also because I prefer the color of the light. Plus clear incandescent light bulbs give sharply defined shadow, something impossible with compact flourscents.... In my 32 square meter studio (350 square feet) I use over 600 watts to light all my incandescent light bulbs! ha! oh and for low income folks the cheap compact florescent light bulbs give off a horrid blue-green light! so unhomely!
